How it all started

Like many family businesses, it all started with grandpa Driek van den Brand who started working as a contractor in Volkel. After a few years, the company came into the hands of his three sons Martien, Antoon and Theo van den Brand and son-in-law Frans van Oort. Subsequently, there was considerable growth. Since 2006, Dirk van den Brand and Wilko van Oort have been at the helm of the company. GBO has a main branch with rubble recycling in Uden, a rubble recycling company in Oss and sand extraction in Schaijk. Dirk: “Our clients are contractors, governments, farmers and private individuals. They choose us because of our flexibility, quality and reliability. Our starting point is to think in terms of solutions and not in terms of problems, so that customers are satisfied and keep coming back. In doing so, we try to innovate and electrify . That is one of the reasons why we choose Develon ( formerly Doosan ).”

Hybrid excavator

The first Doosan GBO bought was a DX340 crawler excavator. “We bought it in 2018 as a hybrid crane,” says Dirk. “It has an extra lifting cylinder that builds up pressure using a nitrogen cylinder. That gives extra power when you start lifting and you need less fuel.” In total, GBO now has five crawler excavators and five wheeled excavators from Doosan and Develon. They vary in size from a DX35 mini excavator to the DX340 heavyweight. The main supplier is Staad in Veghel. Dirk: “My father already bought agricultural machinery from Pieter Staadegaard’s parents, so the contacts with the company and the family have existed for a long time.

Just good

The knowledge that Staad is a reliable party and that the machines are durable was always the deciding factor when purchasing new machines. “We look at fuel consumption, ease of use and how complete the machines are. With that, we also look to the future and the increasing demands that are made.” According to Dirk, the representative sells the first machine, but ultimately the service determines how many subsequent machines we buy. The service at Staad is simply good. And if there is a problem, they solve it quickly and well.”
